Николай Бурцев Is Building Me A Custom Komus!

Jew's harp player and scholar Michael Wright has conducted an encyclopaedic survey of English-language sources to produce a compelling history of the instrument in Britain and Ireland. Another similar harp, less well preserved, was found alongside it at the Cheremshanka site, and three more unfinished instruments were discovered at a nearby archeological dig called Chultukov Log 9. Blacksmithin' was a real trade them days, and my father made axes and hoes and plow shares and knives and even Jew's harps.
I observed a lot of times how they make khomuses. I tried twice. The first try took place a long time ago, with no instruments and of materials at hand. So it could sound, but I couldn't improvise. The second try took place in Japan during a craftsman Metsugi's master class of for children. There are master classes of making children khomuses in Tokio center of childhood creative work. It is an idea of widely known researcher of khomus music Leo Tadagava. Children and their parents during these classes make a small biabon for themselves. I tried to do it together with them, so I made a qualified for the first try Japan khomus. It takes pride of place in my collection.
Before you start plucking, make sure there is enough room for the tongue of the harp to go back and forth between your teeth. Gently push it in and out of your mouth using the trigger, and make sure it isn't scraping against your teeth or hitting your lip Adjust your harp placement and mouth position until the harp no longer hits anything. If it does hit your tooth when playing it will sound bad, it will hurt, and you could possible damage your tooth.
I teach all ages from 6 years to 80 year olds. You do not need to have any experience with music — just the desire to learn. I always ask why” you want to learn to play the harp. Do you want to play a favorite song? Do you want to play for your church or temple? Did you see or hear the harp in your favorite movie? I want to help you reach your harp goals — whatever they may be. If you do not have a harp - I can help you to find one to rent or buy. I teach students to read” music so that they can go on and play piece of music they want. I always remind parents that music lessons are a gift that you give to your children that they will enjoy their entire lives. The harp is a beautiful adventure and you never know where it will take you.
Yakutsk has gained attention as potentially the coldest city in the world, but is worth a visit more for the great natural beauty of its surrounding countryside, unique cryogenic museums, and just for the spirit of adventure in the most remote lands of the world.
Saturday was an open mike, with a sign-up sheet and impromptu groupings. Impromptu? Hey, that must be us! The Americans threw together a pretty nice mix, I think: Mike Seeger, Alexia Smith, and Larry Hanks sang Carter family tunes in sweet harmony; David Holt played some tasty blues on his slide guitar with me backing him on Jew’s harp; David later played a wild solo on his little Italian scacciapensiari in the style of Dizzy Gillespie; Larry and I played an unrehearsed ("Hey Larry, what key is this in?") version of Tennessee Waltz, with Larry on guitar and the melody alternating between his fine baritone voice and my newly purchased looowww G maultrommel; Бron Szilбgyi, from Hungary, joined me for some freeform improvisation; and I gave the audience a demonstration of the Clackamore. (William Tell, what else?) Everyone came out for the final old-timey number. It was, as you can imagine, a ton of fun.
I buried myself in books, I was seeking pictures, sounds and looked for masters but did not find one. There I was, left on my own trying to gather all the information to guide me through my work. I had to figure out everything from the first phase to the end product. I have to admit though that there were certain advantages of this lonesome adventure: one has to find rare and unusual solutions for their questions. So, eventually, at the end of my inner pilgrimage, I managed to create a functioning Jew's harps.

Practice mouthing vowel sounds (a e i u). Vowel sounds are the easiest to do because you already know them by heart, and they don't require you to close your mouth. After this you can try doing similar vowel sounds from other languages, and indeed any sounds which don't require you to close your mouth.
